10-second happenings
No, none of these things took 10 seconds to do. If they had, everyone involved would have been much happier. It's just a random list of significant things.

1. Babies! Jason's sister gave birth to Gracey, the first cousin to be born on his side of the family, on Aug. 20. Fifty hours of labor followed by an emergency C-section. (See? Not 10 seconds)

2. Babies! My brother and his wife gave birth this morning to Josiah by scheduled C-section (more than 10 seconds, less than 50 hours). He is the third cousin on my side of the family.

Both babies were 8 lbs. 10 oz. (cool, huh?) and all are doing fine.

3. Drugs! I stopped at Eckerd on my way home to get some Sudafed (see yesterday's morning post). When I got to the Sudafed aisle, there was a little tear-off pad for all the different types of Sudafed that said "take this slip to the pharmacy to purchase this product". So, I took the slip to the pharmacy to purchase the product, where I had to show my driver's license, write down my address, and sign for it! Seriously? For Sudafed? What's up?

4. No kids! My parents have whisked the kids off to some kind of Scouting/Caravan program at the church near their house for the evening, which is lucky for me because I'm about to keel over from exhaustion. Time for some homemade Mulligatawny Stew (which is one of the 22 freezer meals I made last weekend, and which also took more than 10 seconds) and a movie.

. . . .

Really? But I wouldn't have to go through all that at Wegmans... I'd just buy it off the shelf like always. Or is this a new thing everywhere with the Sudafed?

I haven't bought it in a while, but I remember hearing that at Walmart (I think) they put it behind the shelf at the pharmacy, so you had to ask for it. I don't know if they do the driver's license thing. I did get carded for buying a certain type of glue there once, thought.

You have to consider that, at least at Walmart, there's a self checkout, which I've never seen in wegmans - so if you bought a ton at wegmans someone would notice, unlike walmart. (I realize this has nothing to do with the store you went to)

Yeah, how could you not know that rich white kids in rich white suburbs buy Sudafed and make meth out of it? I should buy you a subscription to one of those useless magazines like Newsweek or Time or something so you'd be in the loop.

Have I grumbled about having to login every time I make a comment lately?

You are such a whiny baby sometimes, I swear.

And I don't have to read news of any kind. Eventually, someone will blog or comment about it! I wouldn't know anything that happens in the world if it wasn't for my friends list.

I felt like a criminal the last time I bought real Sudafed. The stuff they have out in the aisles is meth-maker-proof (like childproof, not like 100 proof) and it sucks. Now I'm wondering what happens if I get a super sinus infection. Can I still buy it? What is the limit? Are cops going to bust down my door in the middle of the night because I bought two boxes of Sudafed this year?

Maybe I'll just deal with it until 2007...

No way, man. There's no reason to suffer. Buy the hard stuff, it's worth it!
